Spiritual Posture . . . Yes, It Is Important Too!

Posture.

Dr. Travis Stork recently talked about how bad our posture is these days since some of us lean over a computer throughout the day and most of us spend hours each day leaning over phones reading and texting.

It's causing major neck and back issues for a lot of people.

Yes, posture is important.

So is our posture as a daughter of the King.

How is your spiritual posture? Do you hang your head down due to shame, unconfessed sin, unforgiveness, illness, bitterness, or sadness?

Or, do you hold your head high with shoulders back and walk in the fullness of forgiveness, joy, kindness, gratitude and peace?

Our physical walk can tell a lot about a person if you take the time to notice. And it's the same with our spiritual posture.

If I'm happy and loving life, my head is up and I'm ready to face the world but if I'm having a bad day --maybe down in the dumps--I have a tendency to slump and kind of slide through the day.

Am I the only one? I don't think so. But . . . if we, and I'm including myself, can remember who we are and who we belong to I think there would be a noticeable difference. A difference that others will see in us, both physically and spiritually.

Today, let's take time to not only count our blessings, but remember the One who has:

  • blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
  • chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.
  • predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,
  • redeemed us through his blood,
  • forgive us of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
  • lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, (Eph. 1:3-10 ESV).

. . . just to name a few!!!

Yes, these few wonderful reminders are found in only nine verses of the Bible. There are so many more reminders if we will take the time to read them and store them in our hearts.

Hey, we won't leave home without our phones that are causing neck and back issues, why don't we make sure we don't leave home without the Word of God. I'm sure what He has to say to us is a lot more important than anything we will read on our phones!

Until next time, may the Lord bless you richly and give you His peace and His joy!
Beth

Digging My Well . . . and Being Filled With Living Water

Our clothes may look different and our mode of transportation too, but we aren’t much different going through life than God’s people, the Israelites, who we read about in the Old Testament.

For years they lived their lives wandering from one place to the next. And we do also. It may not always be a physical place, but we wander just the same as we go through a variety of trials, seasons, joys, disappointments and sorrows. We change jobs, add to our families, lose dear ones, have a change in circumstances, and grow older.

When we read the accounts of the wandering Israelites, we are told that one of the first things they would do when they arrived at a new place was dig a well. There were sometimes springs to be found, but most of the water was below ground. Take Isaac for instance. “Also Isaac’s servants dug in the valley, and found a well of running water,” (Gen. 26:19).

We find in John chapter 14 the conversation Jesus had with a Samaritan woman who went to a well to get water. Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life,” (John 4:13, 14).

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of wandering and being thirsty. I am learning (and sometimes the hard way) the things this world has to offer will only cause me to stay thirsty. I want to stop, pitch my tent, dig a well and drink the water that Jesus said,  “will become in (me) a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

I want to be going about the mundane motions of my day, like the Samaritan woman, and run right into Jesus sitting by my well waiting to fill me with His love, His words, His wisdom, His spirit, and His joy. I want to get so full of this “living water” that it spills out of me and onto others.

What about you? Are you tried of wandering and being thirsty? Make a point to dig a well, a place in your home, where you can spend time with Jesus and let Him fill you.

What would happen if each one of us did this and got so full that His “living water”  spilled out all around us, onto our families, and friends, our church family, and out into the community.

Try it . . . I’m going to . . . and don’t worry about the mess.

Towels will be provided.

Blessings,

Beth
